So much has been happening these past couple weeks in the thoughts of putting my portfolio website together – in previous posts you’ve seen I’ve been posting polls to get other people opinion on what direction to go with (btw, THANKS FOR YOUR OPINION!) – and I’ve been watching and following design chat (http://www.designchat.info/), which has given vast amounts of more knowledge, and inspiration.
These things have led me to some great advice by people in the industry – and I’ve come to the conclusion something just clean, simple, easy to navigate, and not so crazy is the way to go. Let the work speak for itself. I thought I would share the articles/blogs I’ve come by that has given me the incentive to do simple on my portfolio website and to have another website for side projects and whatnots.
I’ll start with Nick Campbell’s blog post he wrote on ‘Seven Rules for Building Online Portfolios’ (http://greyscalegorilla.com/blog/2008/11/26/seven-rules-for-building-online-portfolios/) I came across Nick Campbell site by participating in the weekly chats that happen at Design Chat. Me, going into the same field as Nick, his experiences really spoke to me – so needless to say I took his advice full on.
While continuing my research I also came across Freelance Switch’s post as well (http://freelanceswitch.com/finding/build-a-killer-online-portfolio-in-9-easy-steps/)
Both give great similar advice – and I suggest you to check it out if you plan on making a portfolio website in the future. Remember it doesn’t just have to be graphic related work, everything now a day has an online presence in some way – so why not join.
On slightly unrelated note:
Thumbs up to twitter. I was hesitated to join – but glad I did.
The hardest thing to do once out of school and in the transition of finding a job in the field is your connectivity to the creative world. Twitter has allowed me to find out about Design Chat which I think is nothing BUT FABULOUS! This has then in return connected me to some amazing creative people.
I have some ideas I’ve learned about recently that I’m EXCITED to join in on – which I’ll leave to another post in the near near future. (heads up: tiny houses)
anyhoo, with whatever your involved with / passionate about – remember to stay in the game and just JUMP.
